Discussion Prompt

Why do you think many people talk about Jesus as a good teacher, but overlook His death and resurrection as the very heart of the gospel?

Section 2: Why Did Jesus Have to Die?

Key Idea

Jesus did not die merely as a martyr. He died as the sin-bearer for the world.

Key Idea

If Christ did not rise again, preaching and faith are empty. But Christ is risen indeed.

Scripture Reading

1 Corinthians 15:12–14 (KJV)

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?
13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

1 Corinthians 15:20–22 (KJV)

20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.
